Five CloudFisher Mini fog collectors (see picture) arrived safely in Dareda, Tanzania at the beginning of 2019. Together with our partner p(e)d-World we will install them in February 2020. The fog collectors will supply five schools on the high plateau around Umagi and Qameyu – in the Babati district and about 300 km from Arusha/Kilimanjaro – with clean water. We would like to thank the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) for a transport subsidy and above all the trading company for civil engineering and industrial technology, HTI Gienger in Markt Schwaben, who generously supported the purchase of the fog collectors.
Around 20,000 people live in the project area with the cities of Qameyu, Umagi, Endow, Endabok, Gidn’gata and others. None of the district’s schools are connected to a public water supply. This means that there is no running water. Drinking water is taken from contaminated ponds if they carry water. The ponds are far away from the schools and the pupils miss their lessons when they are asked to transport water to their schools. The families live mainly on subsistence agriculture. The school fees are paid in corn and beans.
