PERU: Vegetation recovers and vegetables are sold on the market

The Repanas nature reserves are a complete success! To combat the water shortage in the Peruvian highlands, we have been working with the local people since November 2021 to set up five protected areas at an altitude of 3,000 meters. And the impact of the tree planting campaigns is visible: The vegetation is clearly regenerating. The groundwater level rises.

Home gardens help families generate income

In addition to the reforestation of the pasture areas, the farming families also received 10.5 kg of seeds each: seeds for onions, cabbage, lettuce, carrots and chard to plant in their home gardens. In total, 149 families planted 7.25 hectares of home gardens during the course of the project. The main aim is to provide families with a healthier and more varied diet. “Surplus” vegetables can be sold. And the income is primarily used to buy new seeds.
